Mantid
Mantidae's pic
Name: Mantidae (no last name)
Race: Insect—Preying Mantis
Gender: Female
Class:Melee Combat
Age: 100 years
In human terms: More like 20
Height: 5'1"
Weight: 300 lbs
Main element: Wind
Secondary Element: Earth
Racial History: In nearly prehistoric times, on Mantis's island, radiation was released. To this day, no one knows how, but many theories speculate that it there were either radioactive minerals on the island that the mantises ate, or it came from outer space, perhaps aliens of some sort. The radiation took on astonishing effects, causing the mantises to grow taller and get stronger. They developed what are known as "anti-bodies," things in the blood that wipe out certain cysts, something that became a problem for the families of the island, particularly Mantis. The species was chosen to have a blood transfusion with the sickly child, and it worked. However, some people (Mantis) have shown strange side-effects when transfused with a mantis. Mantises are hunted, not only for their blood, but also for their skin, which can be used to make countless goods. Her other two legs are used to keep her front legs from breaking. Usually, she doesn't ever use them.
Description: Mantidae stands about 5”1’. She is one of the many mantises on Mantis’s island. She has tendrils, arms with hooks instead of hands, and small, prickly spikes jutting out from them. She has folded wings on her back, wings that are too weak to carry her. She walks with a crouch, hopping with her two jointed legs. She has many eyes, enabling her to see the same thing more than once. Her mouth is a pincer, and thus she can only communicate telepathically with others. She understands English perfectly, being able to “think” in it. She can be very helpful at times, and be a hinderance at others, occasionally coming to stupid conclusions, but other times being brilliant. She is a mixture of a lot of things, but, if you befriend her, she will be your modt loyal companion.
Fighting Style: Melee
Weapons: She has only her tendrils and also has strong feet. Her pincers are, at the moment, incapable of wielding weapons.
Ability: Super strength: Mantidae can bust a table with ease, and can tear apart a human, though she tends to not want to do this; only when she is hungry will she do this.
Ability:
Regeneration: Mantidae can regenerate any body part, with the exception of the head and the heart, within 5 posts. Her antennae, however, regenerate instantly.
Telepathy: Mantidae crosses her antennae. When she does this, she is able to establish either 1) communication--one-way, or, when situations demand it, a 2-way communication path.
Spell: Wind Shield. Using the powers of nature, Mantidae can create a wind shield that can encompass something as big as a keep or as small as a person. The shield itself is strong enough to protect from all projectiles.
Spell: Landslide. Moving her arms in a diagonal motion, Mantidae can either A) Cause huge rocks to fall on the opponent--only in the mountains, or B) cause a huge slab of land (or whatever the floor she happens to be on) to jut up, forming somewhat of a shield. On the next post, the "shield" cracks apart and falls on the opponent.
Spell: Gust of Wind. Pushing her hands out, Mantidae can expel a large blast of wind, powerful enough to perhaps topple an opponent, or cause it to lose its weapon.
HISTORY: Mantidae, much like Mantis, is hunted for her skin. She was born to a small, four-member clan within the forest. Many hunters invaded the forest, looking for Mantis, and wound up killing her family. She has a personal vendetta against any and all hunters. She loves raw meat and seeks to find Mantis and become friends with her “connection” to humans. She prefers to eat raw meat, but she can tell whether or not, in certain situations, she should or not (can tell difference between PCs and NPCs after unconciousness). When there is no meat available, she eats grass and small creatures found in or on the ground (insects).
UPDATED: She is now fast friends with Mantis and Shade.
Vow of Nonviolence: Mantidae has made a vow to never fight in her life, and to not cause damage of anyone, and to only use her spells not to attack, unless she is not directly harming the lifeform (IE, trapping someone)
EXCEPTION: Mantidae will use deadly force to get her food.

The Good:
Ability: Super strength: Mantidae can bust a table with ease, and can tear apart a human, though she tends to not want to do this; only when she is hungry will she do this.
This is good, racial abilities are essential when playing an original race. You should add to and capitalize on these, adding into your history. Also with racial abilities, you should have a racial history, a short one or two paragraph.

While this is a good description it would be better to take out the italicized part. and make ‘telepathy’ an actual ability, with severe limitations, such as “Can only be used to communicate.”
The Bad
[b]Class: Martial Artist[/b[
....? Oh Please. Martial Arts on an insect? “melee combat” it makes more sense.
Regeneration: Mantidae can instantaneously regenerate any body part, with the exception of the head and the heart.
No. No. No. No. Instantly is too much, far to much, even if your element was Bio this would be too much. Enhanced regeneration is OK, but not instantaneous.
to me your character lacks definition; what is its purpose? You need to give it a more insect like personality perhaps filled with a mixture of wisdom and irrationalities.
The Ugly
Age: Completely unknown, maybe 30-40 years, possibly younger
Relative age: More like 20
Mommy can we play “Guess the age of the giant insect?”
But seriously... age in a giant insect should be more, and there should be no relative age.

History
Why would someone want a Mantis skin. Add little details like that, it really gives color to your character.
OOC: Alright, I posted. I will post in the others if you give me a couple of weeks.

Fixed...somewhat. Let me know what you think, when you get the chance, that is ;).

She's not a human. Though the problem still lies in the information: there should be other dimentions included if this creature does not have relatively the same body proportions as a human.

It is based off of the praying mantis and it makes sense, they have (four?) leggs to support the trunk which is long and slender.
I definately enjoyed this profile it was well put togather and original... if not as lengthy and descriptive as I enjoy.
Definatly a 5.5/10 on a scale of the GUA profiles.
