Since modems come in both i was wondering what the difference was between the 2. Except for plug in and play does one have any advantage over the other.

Also why are ethernet modems so damn hard to find

Are you talking about external 56K modems that you hook up using either your USB or Ethernet card? Or are you talking about DSL or Cable modems?

Personally, if I was going to run a 56K modem I would go with an internal modem that plugs into a Pci slot. For a DSL or Cable modem I could go with one that has Ethernet so that I could run it into my router.

Sorry for being inaccurate... and ethernet and usb dsl and cable modem In that case I would go with my suggestion above and pickup an DSL or Cable Modem with an ethernet jack. This whay I could hook it up to my router and then connect as many PCs as I would like on an internal LAN with one external IP address. Also the router could run a hardware firewall and help protect my systems from attacks.

Newegg (http://www.newegg.com) has a bunch to choose from.
