Here I'm compiling a list of answers to questions I will be commonly seeing on the boards.

"Age 3 has started - 7/15/04"

First off:
Click here for Lord_Galdor's KOC Tips and Tricks. (http://www.giveupalready.com/showthread.php?t=1018)

We welcome criticism and complaints, but please try to limit the "Age 3 sucks!" "KOC is ruined!" "OMG SABOTAGE!" and other similiar threads. These posts aren't necessary and recently have created more flame posts directed at the one who created the thread.

Also, the numbers below are completely theoretical at this point. To the best of my knowledge they are right, so please post or pm corrections so that I can make the changes.

640: 105,191,829 gold

Total Cost for all Unit Production: 141,907,386 gold

Soldier Production Notes:
If you are a commander:
-Every 2 soldiers an officer gets you get one. You do not earn any more soldiers from any of your sub officers or sub-sub officers and so forth
-Unit production upgrades do not count for your commander to get soldiers.

Turn based gold:
Current amount of gold per soldier you recieve:
(It has increased by 3 per soldier since the beginning of the beta)
- Humans -
35 gold per soldier per turn
18.75 (might be rounded up to 18.8) gold per spy/sentry per turn.
- All Other Races -
28 gold per soldier per turn
15 gold per spy/sentry per turn.

Training:
Trained soldiers = 5*Weapon Strength
Untrained soldiers = 4*Weapon Strength

Lord_Galdor's Calculation Thread (http://www.giveupalready.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=56851)

Calculations:
Note: These are the same as Lord_Galdor's, however he offers a step by step walkthrough.
SA/DA Calculations:
Strike Action: - Thanks to Surreal and Lexxer
5(x)(y)(z)=weapon strength
Let x=strength of weapons added together (If weapons are damaged do not use its full strength e.g. 2558 * 100 = 255800)
Let y=percentage multiplier, in other words your fortification/siege. (e.g. Catapults =3.00)
Let z = (amount of leftover trained soldiers you have that aren't holding weapons * 5) + (amount of leftover untrained soldiers you have that aren't holding weapons * 4)

Defensive Action: - Thanks to Surreal and Lexxer again
5(x)(y)=weapon strength
Let x=strength of weapons added together (If weapons are damaged do not use its full strength e.g. 2558 * 100 = 255800)
Let y=percentage multiplier, in other words your fortification/siege. (e.g. Boiling Oil = 2.75)
Let z = (amount of leftover trained soldiers you have that aren't holding weapons * 5) + (amount of leftover untrained soldiers you have that aren't holding weapons * 4)

Additional notes:
For orcs you multiply 1.5 against the final SA to get your bonus.
For Dwarves you multiply 1.75 against the final DA for your bonus.

If you have both trained and untrained soldiers holding weapons, the calculation gets a bit complicated:
First off, your untrained soldiers will hold the weapons of least strength.
So, say you have 20 excaliburs and 5 knives. 20 trained soldiers and 5 untrained. (You can also substitute these with defensive weapons)
The following happens:
20 trained pick up excaliburs.
5 untrained pick up knives.

So, the calculation works like this:
5*2560*20
4*5*5
+
-----------------
256040

Now 256040 is x, and you can input that into the above formula.

Another example by minfarshaw (and more thorough) of the above can be found in Lord_Galdor's thread. (http://www.giveupalready.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=56851)

>>>--- Calculating how many spies can get through ---<<< - by Andreas Rot

You can safely sneak
X * Spy_Efficiency / CA
into an enemy camp, whether to spy or sabotage.

X is a constant. Some say 100, some 102. (I use 100 to calc how many I send in, 102 to calc how to keep others out, just to be on safe side)

Spy efficiency is 2 ^ You_Spy_Level. (1 if lvl 0, 2 if lvl 1, 4 if lvl 2,..., 512 if lvl 9, 1024 if lvl 10). This is 25% higher for elves.

CA is your enemies CA
To get the elf race bonus you must multiply 1.25 * the final CA.

>>>--- End of calculation ---<<<

Sabotaging
Use this calculator to effectively sabotage your enemies:
http://www.flurffmeister.com/kings/

Selling items:
You get back
price*0.75*current_strength/max_strength
when you sell items. (i.e. a dragonskin reduced to 1280 would gain you 167,800*,75*1280/2560 = 62,925)

Q & A:
1. Mass attacks are ineffective?
Yup, as of the beginning of Age 3 beta mass attacks have been changed.

"Modified armory damage formula to mitigate the effects of large-scale, coordinated attacks, from weak players."

This means that mass attacks still work, as long as you are strong enough to hurt your opponent's weapons. I'm sure there is a formula to be revealed for this in the future.

3.Why am I losing gold and soldiers?
You are probably being attacked. Check your attack log to see who attacked you, how many soldiers they killed and how much gold they stole from you. Also, for every spy trained you lose one soldier from your total army size, so it will also take away from the amount of turn based gold you gain from every soldier you have as well.

Further note: Spies do not count toward your army size, so if you lose spies in covert missions, your army size doesn't decrease.

4.Why don't I ever kill any enemy soldiers?
The bigger your defending/attacking army, the more casualties you are likely to suffer. Armies small enough will not usually suffer casualties because this would hurt the army much more.

5.What are mercs for/what soldier class dies first?
First off, in battle, the untrained mercenary will always die first, given you have mercenaries. If you have no mercenaries then the untrained soldier will die first. It works like this: (In order from who dies first to who dies last in a battle)
Untrained Mercenary
Trained Mercenary
Untrained Soldier
Trained Soldier
So, purpose of having mercs? To save your soldiers from dying, the ones that are producing that invaluable gold every turn. (That I also mentioned above)

6.A turn progresses but I get no gold! What's going on!?
The best explanation we all have for this issue is that it's a problem with KOC itself. So basically, some bug or internal problems with the KOC servers results in many players not getting gold. In these cases, no one attacked you, hacked your account, etc, etc... Sometimes later in the day you may get a turn that gives all the gold that you missed from earlier, and sometimes not. Hopefully one day the admins will finally get to the bottom of this and fix it, as for now we can't do nothing but wait.

7.Whenever I buy something it buys two things on accident and it says "Not enough money for those items." What's going on!? (Similiar issues: When attacking you attack twice, and when repairing it repairs twice.)
Another server bug here, like in the previous question we can only wait for the developers to fix this problem. For some reason it tries to execute commands twice even though you only clicked the button to execute it once. Patience is a virtue, we can only hope that this will be resolved soon.

8.Where is everyone on KOC from?
http://extremetracking.com/open;geo?login=kofc

9.How much power/affiliation does GUA have with KOC?
Rouen answers clearly and concisely here:
http://www.giveupalready.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59898

10.Is their a way so that I don't have to reload koc's images every page view?
How to run the KOC images from your PC (http://www.giveupalready.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=63355)

[b]11.When I click "Attack" or "Process Order" it does the operation twice! What's going on?
A problem plaguing us since Age 2 that still isn't fixed. You may find a discussion about it here:

Friend Tytrox, I was checking all the info that you give to us here and is extremely good but I have to tell you something about the charts at the end of the post....

I was checking the costs of each weapon and I think that you have a little mistake there: the value of the seventh weapon of each race is not 52,400 it's 50,000 and the value of the eighth weapon is 200,000.
I hope this could help.

83,886,080,000 for 25 soldiers/day O.o

that's ridiculous... is there any1 who has enough money to buy that???

loldongs
11th November 2004, 08:51 PM
No one has that much money at a given time. Unless you banked for weeks theres no chance of getting it. Theres no point for it either, with recruiters and what-not, you could just by thousands of bpms or IS's etc.

blurgish_blade
11th November 2004, 11:31 PM
If u think about it, it must of taken denny ages to earn that much gold...

I know they would have a tbg of around 200,000,000 but that still would take ages...

I calculated that it would take 420 hours for them to get that total which is roughly about 15 days... Inclusing banking mabye even 20 days

When a guy goes on vacation mode does his avccount still earn money and people or is it like it implies suspended?

Rincewind
23rd December 2004, 01:59 PM
The account is suspended: no gold, no unit production, no attack turns, no attacks on you.

That's if it works. But there have been a lot of reports of it not working. Mostly they're reports of it re-activating shortly afterwards but there have been reports of people being stuck in vacation mode and people having their accounts re-set by it.

This is completly off topic for this thread, but why can't I sell any of my attack/defense weapons that I want to sell? example:

I click the sell box and nothing happens.

Sabotaging
Use this calculator to effectively sabotage your enemies:
http://www.flurffmeister.com/kings/

Sabotage

Your level 10 spy climbing tall buildings with a grappling hook will do 307200 damage and destroy 30 weapons of 10000 strength.

Sending my level 10 spy to destroy only 1 missile returns

Your officers inform you that you will never be able to get away with sabotaging that much of an opponent's armory.

Yes, I have lvl10 spies, I have a grappling hook, the target does have a blackpowder missile, and my covert is high enough to sneak a spy in... so what gives?

blunderball
2nd January 2005, 02:15 AM
Well to start, that calculator is based on the formula used in Age 2, and so is out of date and void.
The reason you cant sab this is because you cannot sab more than 25% of someones military effectiveness. So for example if someone has 100,000 SA (for this example lets say they have 0 for all other stats) and each BlackPowder Missile they own adds 33,333.33 to the SA value - you are unable to sab 1 weapon. However, if it was only adding 10k to the overall value, you could successfully attempt a sab.
(Keep in mind that Spy and Sentry rating also count in the overall percentage of what you can sab/cannot sab)

hi, can i steal a turn??

how can i make a lot of turns?? also gold??

loldongs
9th January 2005, 11:16 PM
Well you cant steal turns...the best thing to do is take a break from attacking for a few days but still signon to spend you gold. Then when your ready to go on a rampage, make sure you get the most amount of gold possible.

to get more gold per turn you need to increase the amount of soldiers you have. this is most easily done by going on a recruiter and clicking other user's links and giving you credits for returned clicks. or you could do it the slower way, by getting unit production upgrades. For gold for attacking, get a small army size (like below 100 if your new) and attack people bigger than you.

ok,thanx hop 2 know more some tips on how to b powerful alone.. (not joining any alliances)

can i ask.. what is banking here?? how can i bank.?? coz i read some banking and i wonder how it is done.. is it a necessity??

loldongs
10th January 2005, 10:34 PM
banking is a necessity if you want to get big upgrades or just prepare for sabs etc. What you do is buy excess weapons (usually knives) and let them stockpile. Once you have enough, sell them and use the gold for the next big upgrade.

Cadawg
11th January 2005, 03:09 PM
One of the Clan Boards once posted a formula to determine when it is worthwhile to buy a fortification upgrade. Not just possible but to get the most bang for your investment gold. Both using banked and money on hand. Does anyone have that link or remember where it is shown here on this board.

A friend of mine is trying to decide whether to buy a Palace yet or not and if so when he should do so with banked ISs. The old question of when or if it is a good idea to sell and buy and at what point is his DA high enough not to take a huge loss in DA to upgrade. Thanks to anyone who remebers this or is better at searching here. Cadawg

this is probably the thread you're looking for (http://www.giveupalready.com/showthread.php?t=83)
or this one (says improved calculations ;)) (http://www.giveupalready.com/showthread.php?t=1018)

I'd like to add that you, or your friend, should take in account that the table is purly mathematical, so you mathematically do advantage when having a certain amount of IS or DA, however, in my opinion, a fortification upgrade is worth more than that, bacause it's not sabbable, your IS always can be sabotaged and broken, just a thought. Unless you're the most peacefull and lucky player in KoC ;)

22nd January 2005, 10:54 AM
No, when you go into vacation mode, your account remains exactly as it was before. It disappears from the rankings for that amount of time. The main benefit is not getting weapons damage or losing soldiers to attacks.

Here is my problem. when ever I go to attack or even go to the armory to buy new weapons, I enter the characters as told even make them case sensitive, and it keeps screwing me over. It tells me that I am not putting the numbers characters exactly as they are, but I am. as any1 else having this problem?? I had to keep putting in the numbers about 12 times today before it finally excepted it. It almost cost me good today, and it has cost me a hit that would have been about 600k.

I had this problem a few times when i have clicked someones recruiter link, first off i click the correct digit which it said i hadn't, and second i entered the correct string and it said i hadn't.

All i could put this down to the server not knowing exactly what the value is the images were...

The cost decreased with 50%, and the new maximum is 25 soldiers a day.
So here is a new list.

2 | 10,000
3 | 20,000
4 | 40,000
5 | 80,000
6 | 160,000
7 | 320,000
8 | 640,000
9 | 1,280,000
10 | 2,560,000
11 | 5,120,000
12 | 10,240,000
13 | 20,480,000
14 | 40,960,000
15 | 81,920,000
16 | 163,840,000
17 | 327,680,000
18 | 655,360,000
19 | 1,310,720,000
20 | 2,621,440,000
21 | 5,242,880,000
22 | 10,485,760,000
23 | 20,971,520,000
24 | 41,943,040,000
25 | 83,886,080,000

This is an absolute rip off, it`d take u about 2 mins to get 25 units when clicking. If anyone actually brought this then they really must have been crazy IMO. :eyepop:

I kept having problems on the sell-off-for-upgrade calculators. So I made a system of equationsthat work:

{50,000(I)F1=D}
{50,000(I)F2-T=D}
where T=C/562500(F1)(50,000)

I=Invisibility shields
F1=current fortifications
F2=next fortifications
C=cost of next fortifications.
This is tested to work. I spen a long time on this and realized there is a much simpler equation:

I=T/12,500

try it.

next fort: Fortress, 40960000

T=12775000(round amount of IS to sell up)
I=1022

ok...
under draw: 1022(50,000)(3.5)=178,850,000
under fort: 1022(50,000)(3.75)-12775000=178,850,000
When you multiply the results it ends up about a million off. But it is close enough to get a really good idea of where you need to be before you sell off to upgrade.

NoKtUrNaL
21st May 2005, 10:45 PM
Hmm i wont lie this makes little sense to me but if im correct your saying you sell Invis shields to upgrade ? right there you have a problem
if your banking for any decent sum of gold you wanna bank in knives, to avoid the drastic rank drop from selling useful weapons
if you reallly dont like using your head to calculate the upgrades go to
http://www.ebbenhorst-design.nl/koc_tutorial/calc.php
It goes on the logic of banking in knives but tells you alot of other stats too..

xe-bec
22nd May 2005, 12:33 AM
The equation is wrong anyways, replace in the "T=" equation F1 with F2, then the calculations are exact to an exclamation point, when you multiply out, you have the same when you sell, as when you didn't. Plus selling off wont drop you ranks even if you sell IS if the upgrade you buy leaves you at the same rating.

If you have 1095 IS and a defense of 191,625,000 with drawbridge, and you sell 73 and get fortress leaving you with 1022 IS and the same defense of 191,625,000, then your not dropping, but each IS is worth more defense individually, then if you didn't sell off and and kept buying IS. in other words if you have 1023 IS with Fortress, your defense will be higher than if you had 1096 with drawbridge. So it makes more sense to sell off, because selling off would actually increase your defense at that point more than not selling off.

One more ting, whats up with the stats on the side of these posts? HP, commitment? You have 600 more posts than me, but we have equal stats on the side. How do you change that?

oh, I see the page, but the idea sucks to me, lemme explain before you start rampid flame posts... If you want to bank with kknives to get fortress, thats 40,000,000 worth of knives that don't do crap for your stats. Wouldn't you want that 40,000,000 gold worth of weapons work heavily towards your stats? You never have to bank, just keep buying those IS until you can upgrade. Lets blow this way out of proportion. Say you have 9000 IS. That is a defense of 1,575,000,000 with all trained defensive. If you sell 73 of them to get fortress, your defense goes up to 1,673,812,500. By selling off you actually increased your defense by hundreds of millions, instead of losing defense. You just need to know when to sell as to where it will help you.

NoKtUrNaL
22nd May 2005, 02:23 AM
Why would you want to build up stats and then destroy them to upgrade?
Nobody has 1.5 billion before selling to get fortress :P so it isn't quite as easy as you make it seem
You need upgrades for the multiplier they give to each weapons strength
Therefore if you have to sell them its not benefiting you is it? however if you have weapons and you have knives which as you said do nothing
your stats go up instead of down when you upgrade
Which makes a helluva lot more sense to me
Say you wanna get Keep upgrade which i have (from banking with knives)
if i sold IS i would have had to sell 583 of them which would cripple my DA causing me to either lose sleep or become a farm
437,250,000 gold must be spent in order to be able to sell off an upgrade, wouldnt you rather that be wasted on knives over time instead of on useful weapons you will lose?

it all depends on your DA and how much $$$ (if any) you bring in from steals

By selling off you actually increased your defense by hundreds of millions, instead of losing defense. You just need to know when to sell as to where it will help you.
If you have to sell your DA weapons you do not get a DA boost
if you wait that long to upgrade to fortress perhaps but regardless its still wiser to bank with what you dont need instead of ruining stats you work for isnt it?

xe-bec
24th May 2005, 11:02 PM
all you need is a little over 1000 IS to upgrade to fortress to remain even. It takes 73 IS to sell off to have enough gold. I get about 20-25 IS a day, so it is about a months wait, but that is because I am not a strong player. If I was a strong player, then selling off would be very useful because your not losing anything, and it dont take long to accumulate IS.

You may not agree, but its a matter of differing opinion and strategy.

Because when you don't have 55.000 men to hold your knives it will not effect your SA. Most of the time people use BPM's or INV's to sell because they can not be so sabbed easely as knives.

You have only 2 switches in this age, and ditch is a switch.

You can delete your account and start over true the recruitmentlink of your new officer (this way you have two switches again.).

Does anyone has a formula or relationship of the amount of gold stolen... I know it has to do with the amount of soldiers that enter in battle, but how exactly does this works.

Have anyone that posted here since AGE 4 started noticed that is the reason why the tables seems not to fit??? THIS is AGE 3 FAQ, we are in AGE 4...

I am not understanding the SA/DA calculations. It says that SA=5(x)(y)(z) where x equals the total strength of your weapons, your seige bonus, and z=(number of unarmed trained soldiers * 5)+(number of unarmed and untrained soldiers*4). This means that with 1,000 trained soldiers wielding bpm and no untrained soldiers or unarmed trained soldiersand cannonballs that your SA is equal to the following:

SA= 5(10,000*1,000)(5)((0*5+0*4)=0

What am I missing in the thread. Or is the SA formula wrong?

SA= 5(10,000*1,000)(5)((0*5+0*4)=0

What am I missing in the thread. Or is the SA formula wrong?

That formula is poorly worded, it should say that if you dont have any unarmed train or untrained leave them out of the equation so you dont end up multiplying by zero.

Yours calculation should be

SA= 5(1000*10000)(5) which = 250,000,000

Asparath

After looking at Lord Galdor's tips and tricks I believe that the formula given 5(x)(y)(z)is incorrect. I think the formula should be:

(5(w)+4(x))(1+.333 B)+t*4+u*4

w is the cumulative strength of the equipped weapons held by trained soldiers.
x is the cumulative strength of the equipped weapons held by untrained soldiers.

the trained soldiers will always pick up the strongest weapons available first and the untrained soldiers will pick up what is left untill all of the soldiers are armed, any left-over weapons will not be factored into this formula.

(B = Number of your current Siege Technology level)
(B = 0 for None, 1 for Flaming arrows, 2 for Ballistas, 3 for Battering Ram,
4 for Ladders, 5 for Trojan Horse, 6 for Catapults, 7 for War Elephants, 8 for Siege Towers, 9 for Trebuchets, 10 for Black Powder, 11 for Dynamite, 12 for Cannons)
---> Note: Always round up to .333 .667 and .000

t is the number of unarmed trained soldiers.
u is the number of unarmed untrained soldiers.

I believe its still the case of your attack weapons can only be fully destroyed when they have been sabotaged and you then proceed to use them in an attack. So if you just sell the amount you think has been taken and rebuy before you attack someone, you will only lose a small amount compared to the possible initial damage

If the weapons that were sabbed were defensive and haven't been broken or if they were offensive weapons and you haven't attacked since they were sabbed you could potentially sell those weapons at the normal price. The only problem is guessing the number of weapons that had been sabbed.
