Is it better to try to get a *huge* army, but at the same time have to find huge armies to attack if you want to get the max gold, or try to have a tiny army that's fully equipped, so you have no trouble getting the max gold when you attack?

Small being doing no Unit Production updates and just recruiting as fast as I can equip them with the best armory.

I'm currently leaning towards doing a tiny army when the round resets, and trying to look like that zev players does, that's ranked 11th with a tiny army of 42,492 soldiers.

Is there any way to defend against being Sabotaged? I got high defense, yet I get crushed when I get Sabotaged.

(Disclaimer: I'm a n00bie that's only been playing for about three weeks.)

You need to build your sentry up to defend a sabotage xD if you have 3 times or more bigger sentry than the spy of the player who tries to sabotages you your armory will be safe :)
having small TFF is good for slaying but you can have big TFF and again to slay :P there are always bigger guys than you except if you have bunch of clicking insanes under you as officers :D then you might be just a pure banker :P

WOW!! So the army size doesn't count the spies and Sentry!!! That's *really* nice to know!!

So, if I have a Total Covert Force size of 1,000,000, and a total Fighting force of only 25,000, if I attacked some one else with a fighting force of 500,000, the game would look at my attack as me attacking a bigger army, me of 25,000 force size attacking some one with a force size of 500,000 and won't see me as having the size of 1,025,000!!

Here's what I got right now

Attack: 67,566 (+44,550 Untrained)
Defense: 51,798 (+44,550 Untrained)
Spy: 98,516
Sentry: 69,897
Total Fighting Force: 163,914
Total Covert Force: 168,413

Attack
Dagger 7,529
Maul 38,011
Blade 10
Excalibur 412

Defense
Shield 28,730
Mithril 678
Dragonskin 23

Spy
Cloak 10,894
Hook 1,843
Pickaxe 240

Sentry
Horn 12,809
Guard Dog 4,601
Torch 704

So get as big of an army as you can, and just bomb yourself with Covert Force!!

I think I'll be doing some *massive* un-training, and keep trying to have as big of a force as possible, but only have enough attack and defense force that I can have them all equipped with the best armor, and the rest goes to the Covert Force.

Huge army (~2m+ for this age moment) will generate ~5b gold in 24hours, and if you're normal (sleeping at nights and other stuff) player you can hope to bank ~60-70% of it. It's 3-3.5b every day.If you train down your 2m TFF (total fighting force), you will cut your TBG (turn based gold) almost in half. So it's ~1.6b gold lost every day just because you trained down. You get 48 turns every 24 hours = 4 full attacks. This means that every attack must be at least 400m just to make you even (of course you want some profit too). And not many people can do that.
Not doing UP (unit production) upgrades even for "small" account is not wise. Bigger UP = more soldiers to hold cheap and efficient weapons = less gold spent on sentry/spy. Gold spent on UP will repay itself very fast when buying cheap weapons.

1. Yes.

2. Buying cheaper weapons and having bigger army is more efficient, than buying "best" weapons.
For ex. 1 mil gold spent gives me:
1 Excalibur - 396111 attack rating
5 blades - 495015
66 maul - 651459
1000 daggers - 957348
Same goes for all stats.

Also you could try just to keep untrained soldiers who can hold defense and attack weapons at the same time. Downside is that rating will be lower.

Choice depends on your play style.

It all depends on how you choose to play. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Just remember, you can keep a medium sized army to rack up turn based gold, and don't attack anyone until you get a good amount of SA. Then train down and farm people for days :) Just make sure your TFF is big enough to hold all your weapons.

And welcome to RoC by the way :) Feel free to join us on IRC for real time chat too! (the chat button at the top of the website)

If you can manage a large tff then by all means go for it but most ppl cant. Its best to have a decent size tff (750k-1.25 mill) because if you have all coverts you will be massed to pieces and your account will be destroyed. A medium tff will let you bank decent gold and also slay ppl so for the average player i would recommend a medium tff.

I think I'll go for a big force on the next round for the money, since I won't be showing up six weeks late!! I just had noticed that most of the stats increases come from bombing yourself with armory, and getting actual Soldiers hardly helps at all for gaining stats, and I also wanted to get the max gold when attacking, and at the same time be a harder target for those of you that have been in this round from the start and see all that juicy gold, by having a much smaller number of soldiers so you would get less gold, while also being protected from the Sabotages. So I've mostly been trying to have a good defense rank, and hiding my gold.

About once a week I'll go on an attacking spree for armory and upgrades. Other than that it's mostly repairing Sentry and what's left in gold, buying other armory!! I got

Your Stats Action Points Rank
Strike: 310,505,813 #460
Defense: 299,082,201 #303
Spy: 446,106,750 #505
Sentry: 744,578,126 #458

Having a big (as possible) army size is best early on because you'll get way more TBG (the gold you get every 30 min) then you'll ever be able to take from other players.
The best way to get a huge army size is to get your Unit Production upgrades ASAP they go up to 40k per day and it really adds up. Now you can also click a ton but I personally don't click hardly at all.

Total Fighting Force: 1,463,013
Total Covert Force: 1,141,045

Thats mine. I got my Unit Production upgrades maxed fairly quickly and have been getting most of my men from that. I kept my covert force as small as possible early on in the age by buying the biggest least cost effective covert weapons so that I would'nt have to train many spies and sentries and lose that TBG.

Later on I "trained down" by starting to train my men to spies and sentries so that I could have a good sized army for attacking people for the SA that I have. It really helps to have a good alliance or friends who have really high spy to find you hits because they'll be able to see way more gold then you can. I also recommend using IRC its a great way to get your questions answered and get to know the other people that play this game!

Gold Generated 113,347,722,654 Gold
Pillaged 47,956,936,915 Gold
Gold Lost to Attacks 26,560,921,377 Gold

As you can see TBG way out paces what you can slay. Ive used about 1400 turns so far this age. And I sleep through the night never setting an alarm to wake me up to bank. I also use my Iphone to bank during the day tho.

A good compromise and what alot of people do is stat BIG for the first 50-75% of the age then train way down and go very small, 50-100k TFF and use all of their turns later in the age when you can hit for higher amounts. I personally like to be able to buy the cheaper weapons and get more stats so I sort of stay in the middle.

I think I got just one or two UP upgrades left to do. College (22000x) is listed under Current Unit Production. I just did my one weeks worth of attacking and did a few upgrades and then bought a ton of armor and now I got

Strike: 394,596,608 #438
Defense: 314,922,653 #295
Spy: 856,328,000 #451
Sentry: (+3%) 2,136,699,912 #348

with Sentry being

Sentry: 744,578,126 #458

before this. And I got 77,172 for my army size.

after 22,000 there is 28,000, 34,000 and 40,000 the cost doubling each time.
