I've got a problem with the Java chat, i.e. it's not working.
Basically the same issue as here: Java chat (http://www.giveupalready.com/showthread.php?77372-Java-Chat&p=1371624&viewfull=1#post1371624)

Then the application area goes black and unresponsive.
Any suggestions?

Get mirc it's way better anyway plus it's free.

http://www.mirc.com/

Just never register or w/e and it stays free.

Yea I've got mirc :)
But every so often it acts up, saying "you've used me for a gazillion days without paying me,
get lost", and I only get to click the exit button. I like using Java chat on those days.

Try mibbit.com, seems to work fine.

Lets focus on getting a fix on the JAVA, I cant use it either. And neither can several others. Annoying when trying to get new players into the chatroom.

I agree with colleca here. I have the same problem when I mirc starts acting up. Ofcourse there are other clients we can use but it's important that the java chat on the homepage works. Why else would it be there then?

My point exactly.
Yea mirc works if you have the patience to restart it 20 times,
but it would be good to get the java app working for everyone.
I'm think there will be more people experiencing this problem, but
never post in gua.

I have the latest version of Mozilla Firefox, and the most recent
updates of java and Adobe Flash Player. Also tried in IE 8,
same error there.

I've tried: restarting browser, rebooting, clicking "Yes" and "No"
when the dialogue pops up, all with the same result.

Problem with the java is that the security certificate for the applet expired which means that browsers well... don't trust it. The only way around this is to run the unsecured java chat applet however that will only allow connections to an irc server on the same host as the applet is running from.

I have looked around for a replacement java applet for irc but there just isn't one that is even halfway decent.

hi Tayotoshi long time no see :P How you been doing? Hopefully you remember me.

Some options are be patient with mIRC or get Ice Chat which is also quite nice or ChatZilla. Also mibbit is avaliable but you cant do much with that!

Links for both:

Ice: http://www.icechat.net/site/

Chatzilla: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/chatzilla/

Hopefully this helped out,and makes your decision easier.

Regards,
