I c a lot of people training their untrained soldiers into Attack Trained Soldiers, because they dont die when attacked. 1. Is this true?
I currently have 20k Untrained soldiers and 200 defence mercs. Should i spend 40m on training those untraineds to ATS?

Yes this is true, your untrained soldiers will die first. So only when you have no single untrained soldier then you'll trained soldiers will die.
It's good if you train your soldiers into defence or attack soldiers because they can carry your weapons.
So if you got 60 IS and only got 50 trained defense soldiers you run the risk of 10IS's not being used.

Ok basicly here is what training does. Say you train a soldier as an attack specialist, then that soldier will increase a lot in effectivness in attacking and will no longer be of any use on defending. Trained men also get first pic of the weapons and they do better with weapons than untrained with weapons. The other big advantage of training men is it makes them harder to kill. Not impossible, but difficult. If you have both trained and untrained soldiers, the untrained ones will die off before the trained ones will. There is an order to soldiers dieing off. Here is the order in which soldiers will die at (in order of easiest to kill to hardest to kill):

Untrained mercs
Trained mercs
Untrained soldiers
Trained soldiers

Also, the perpose of mercs is to die in the place of your soldiers.
